Rim lighting bride and groom at Bunker Bay

Early afternoon light is typically harsh to work with but can be used advantageously. Selecting a nice dark foliage in the background gave me the chance to use an old portrait studio technique called “rim lighting”. This is when your main light which in this case was the sun is behind your subject and highlights the shape of the subject. The sun added some lovely light rays and flare entering the picture. Exposing for that brighter light means that the subject is darkened and more dramatic, the highlight from the sun runs around the edges of Travis & Rebecca as they kiss.
