Hamelin Bay. Sheltered from the south-westerly sea breeze, this is the coastal ceremony of choice when Gnarabup is being sandblasted. The stingrays at the boat ramp are a lovely surprise for the two of you after vows. Jointly managed under Shire of Augusta Margaret River and DBCA permits.
Bunker Bay. North-facing, City of Busselton jurisdiction, and the permit allows flower petals at the conclusion of the ceremony (something Shire of Augusta Margaret River reserves prohibit). Sheltered through most of the afternoon.

Boranup Karri Forest (remote clearings). Deeper into the forest toward Lake Cave, the clearings are less visited and the light becomes more private. Four-wheel drive access gets us to spots the public rarely sees.
Sugarloaf Rock. Up the coast toward Dunsborough and the standout golden hour option in the whole region. Flat shoes to get down the rocky, gravelly track to the main photo spot. Once you’re there, you have golden hour flare, silhouettes against the Indian Ocean, and the kind of scale that makes photographs feel cinematic. No four-wheel drive required to reach the lookout, but the sense of exposure is dramatic.
Conto Springs and Bobs Hollow. Conto’s is a location for the calm days when there’s barely any wind. You stand on the limestone with the beach and ocean dropping away below, and I’ll time it for late golden hour because the light and colour are extraordinary. When conditions line up like that I get genuinely excited and the couples usually have a laugh at me. It’s a bit like a kid opening presents on Christmas morning. Bobs Hollow sits close by on an easy four-wheel drive track that my 105 Series Landcruiser takes in its stride. Bobs Hollow has dramatic caves and sheltered structure to shelter behind if the wind picks up, or clifftops to play with if it doesn’t.
Redgate Beach. For adventure couples who want remote limestone cliffs and the sunset photography that defines the aesthetic, Redgate is the pairing most couples never see on the usual circuits.

A few restrictions worth knowing. No confetti is permitted at DBCA sites or SAMR reserves, including organic flower petals, whole rice, or dried leaves. Bunker Bay is the exception where petals are allowed. No drones in national parks without a separate CASA and DBCA commercial permit. No dogs in national parks, though select Shire-managed beaches permit dogs on leash, and certain private luxury estates welcome pets.
Luxury Elopement Margaret River for Perth and Interstate Couples
Around 70 percent of my couples drive down from Perth (a 3-hour drive). Another 20 percent fly in from Melbourne or Sydney. The remainder are international, which is a growing part of the business as the Busselton airport routes expand.
Flights to Busselton-Margaret River Airport (BQB)
Jetstar now operates direct flights to Busselton-Margaret River Airport (BQB) three times weekly from Melbourne (Wednesday, Friday, Sunday) and twice from Sydney (Tuesday, Saturday). BQB is 51 kilometres north of Margaret River, approximately 40 minutes by road. Flying direct cuts out the Perth transfer entirely.
Perth Drive
Most Perth couples drive down for their luxury elopement Margaret River two days before the ceremony and stay four nights. The drive is 3 hours via the Forrest Highway and Bussell Highway. I recommend arriving by 2 PM Friday for a Saturday ceremony to give yourselves a settling day.
Notice of Intended Marriage (NOIM)
Western Australian law requires the Notice of Intended Marriage to be lodged with your celebrant no earlier than 18 months before and no later than one calendar month before the ceremony date. The one-month minimum is a hard legal requirement with no exceptions.
For interstate and international couples, the NOIM can be signed before an authorised witness in your home state or country (an overseas notary public or a local doctor qualifies) and submitted to the celebrant by email. I coordinate this with your celebrant as part of the planning process.
Witnesses
Australian law requires two witnesses aged 18 or over to sign the marriage register. For couple-only elopements with no guests, I act as one witness and your celebrant or hair-and-makeup artist acts as the second. You never need to invite someone just to meet this legal requirement.

The forecast turned the week of the wedding, so I moved the location to a beautiful cellar door at no extra cost and briefed every vendor on the change within an afternoon. Can we legally consume alcohol in Boranup Forest or on Shire beaches after the ceremony?
Not without a temporary liquor permit. Public reserves and national parks in Western Australia prohibit open alcohol consumption otherwise. The way I plan it, your celebratory toast happens at a licensed venue or privately back at your luxury estate, so the celebration flows naturally from the ceremony into dinner.
What happens if a bushfire warning or extreme weather event closes Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park on the day of the ceremony?
DBCA revokes Special Activity Permits immediately in catastrophic fire danger or when parks close. Every package I run includes a pre-approved backup location at a private estate or indoor venue, so the day proceeds regardless. I monitor conditions from the day before and brief you on any changes.
Can interstate or international couples complete all legal paperwork without travelling to Western Australia beforehand?

How far in advance do we need to book private chefs and luxury villas in Margaret River?
High-end villas and private chefs book out 6 to 12 months ahead for autumn (March to May) and spring (September to November) weekends. If your date is in those months, lock in 9 to 12 months out. For winter dates (June to August), 3 to 6 months is usually sufficient and often comes with off-peak pricing.
Do national park permits grant exclusive access to the forest or beach?
No. DBCA and Shire permits grant legal approval for a ceremony and ensure no other wedding is approved for that specific clearing on that date. Walking tracks, lookouts and beaches remain open to the public. The ceremony clearings I use are off main tracks and have remained private for every ceremony I’ve photographed there.
What is the protocol if rain occurs during an outdoor luxury elopement?
Every package includes a wet-weather contingency: a covered estate veranda, a sheltered limestone cave, or a private villa indoor space. I monitor the forecast from 72 hours out and brief you on the backup from 24 hours out. Light rain in Boranup Forest produces some of the most atmospheric photographs you’ll ever see, so the backup doesn’t always get used even when it rains.
