Telling stories with natural wedding photo sequences

I use sequences of photographs more and more in my work. I specialise in a natural wedding photography style that celebrates the emotions, connections and genuine moments.

There is a start, middle and end to a moment and I use multiple photographs to describe that moment.

It’s a style that is rooted in the history of documentary photography. Documentary photography was traditionally about capturing “the decisive moment”, that one un posed frame that explains everything that is happening.

Then some guys got famous for taking multiple shots of moments unfolding to explain their stories.

Here is an example of how this can apply to wedding photography.

Paul and Fiona are being congratulated after their wedding ceremony at Our Lady Of The Southern Cross Church in Dunsborough.

Paul’s mum is seen in the first frame looking at her son, full of emotion.

The next frame is all about her radiant smile, the joy on her face as she goes to embrace her son and then we have the embrace, squinting happy eyes and a big hug. To the right Paul’s dad is happily laughing and watching on.
