Natural Margaret River wedding photographer
I have always been drawn to the natural exchanges between people. The moments where people drop their guard and they are being their true selves. Often emotion fuels this honest reaction. Weddings are emotionally charged days that take years of planning but are over way to quickly for my liking. My passion is to photograph hundreds of natural wedding moments, so my brides and grooms can re live their wedding day and the moments with their loved ones.
Why Margaret River is suited to my natural wedding photography style
I have found over the years that my clients are very much like me, relaxed, easy going, genuine and fun loving people. They are not particularly into being the centre of attention and being away from their guests for hours posing for photographs.
With that in mind I find wedding venues in Margaret River offer a more relaxed, stress free experience. Some have accomodation on site at your venue, so everything is right there on the property, saving you any driving or worrying about your guests driving home late at night.
Other venues are close to accommodation and you can have your ceremony, bridal photos and reception all there on the property which again saves you some wedding day stress.
What is natural wedding photography?
Many phrases can describe natural wedding photography, I feel a little sorry for brides and grooms researching their photographer as it can be confusing. Especially when a photographer who clearly poses people, labels themselves as a natural wedding photographer. If this is how you are feeling, then I recommend that you forget reading what the photographer is saying and see for yourself in the photos whether they look natural or staged.
My natural approach to wedding photography.
Letting a wedding day flow naturally without unnecessary interruptions is how I have decided to approach photographing weddings. It’s about being honest and up front in the planning stage, helping my clients to achieve the photographs that they have always dreamed of.
If someone sounds like they want mainly posed wedding images then I will tell them that I am not the best fit. My passion is in photographing the lovely authentic and honest exchanges between people, the moments that happen in between and that could be easily missed if it wasn’t one hundred percent your passion.
Can natural wedding photography be directed at all?
Yes I believe that you can add some direction to a group of people or a couple and still finish up with a natural wedding photograph. In fact that is exactly how I photograph the majority of my bridal photos at weddings. The few photos that the bride and groom would love with their bridesmaids or groomsmen or perhaps those gorgeous natural portraits of the bride and groom in the late afternoon light.
My direction is minimal and I use it to pop people in flattering light, or infant of a stunning backdrop. I will then create a situation or interaction that takes the photo back to the spontaneous moment or series of moments to add variety for my clients to choose from. Kind of like games, this makes my clients experience very relaxed, enjoyable and fun.
People look their best in wedding photos when they are photographed naturally.
People look incredible when they are happy and relaxed on their wedding day. It’s a no brainer really. Magic happens after laughter that you can never re create. There is an optimal time to capture that joyful expression on someones face, when they are in the moment, happy and themselves.
Or it might be an expression that your fiancé always has in a particular moment, that I can capture for you. these are the type of photographs that are personal and tell a story that is valuable to you.
If I pose you at your wedding, the more authentic honest moments are lost. Your experience becomes tiring and exhausting. The expressions on your faces become tired and awkward. Your wedding photos are very familiar “wedding photos” because photographers that like to pose people, repeat the same poses very week. Also there is a strong possibility that poses are borrowed from another wedding they saw online.
How natural wedding photography effects your experience.
Natural wedding photography is more about letting your day flow, capturing genuine moments and light fun direction. Often you or your guests will not notice me photographing your wedding, this allows me to blend in and capture the natural in between moments that lets face it, everyone one loves and talks about.
You will also be very confident in my ability to direct and organise proceedings on your wedding day, allowing you to be present with the people you love and not anxiously wondering what the time is and should we do photos now.
Your confidence will come from the extensive planning we will undertake prior to your wedding day. I create a personalised photography timeline to suit how you want your day to unfold. Based on the number of directed photographs you want and the time you’d like to allocate to that will determine the timings of bridal party photos for instance. Every scenario is discussed so you and your fiancé can chill and enjoy the most important day of you lives.
When I need a big voice to direct a large family group I have one and I am not shy to use it. When it’s time to blend back in and capture hundreds of awesome natural moments I will be in my element doing what I am passionate about.
Do natural wedding photographers do family group photos?
Yes, I sure do. I am happy to do as many as you wish. I even have a neat technique which halves the time allocated to family photos and guarantees that no family group is ever missed.
