WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHEr South West
Anyone that has visited the Margaret River wine region can see why the South West is so popular with couples planning their wedding ceremonies and receptions. Ocean lovers have the amazing beaches to choose from and there are plenty of forests and impressive wineries across Margaret River, Dunsborough and Yallingup making it the best destination for weddings in WA.
World class locations for Wedding Photography in Margaret River.
Margaret River weddings are commonly very relaxed and people have a lot of fun, I contribute this to the fantastic venues that suit anything from an elopement wedding through to a luxury wedding at a vineyard or resort. Planning to arrive a few days before your wedding gets everyone into the South West vibe which washed away the daily stress and put you and your wedding guests in the mood to celebrate.
Photographing weddings in my natural style is all about capturing the happy times shared by you and your guests, when everyone is relaxed and having a good time they tend to look amazing in photos. This makes my task easier as I can blend into the crowd and photograph your day without directing.
Margaret River weddings complement my style of natural wedding photography.
Personally I love nothing more than photographing people at weddings when they are totally unaware of me and my camera. To do this people need to be relaxed and totally immersed in the moment. Booking a wedding venue in the South West promotes this because your ceremony and your reception will tend to be at the one venue. No need to drive anywhere or worry about time, you and your guests can flow from one awesome moment to the next while I photograph hundreds of wonderful genuine moments when people are being themselves, showing their true personalities rather than having to fake anything for the photographer.
Planning your South West wedding photography.
I have photographed hundreds of weddings in the South West and I love how each wedding is never the same. Firstly I love to get to know my couples, find out what they love to do, what they love about the South West etc. This gives me a sense of what version of my photography they will want. I can start planning with them the times for photos, the amount of directed photos they would like, how long they would like to be away from their wedding guests while having bridal party photos.
The great thing is that I can tailor my service to fit with the experience a couple wants to have on their wedding day. I have photographed everything from extremely large traditional Italian Weddings in Perth that require lots of direction through to no direction at all documentary wedding photography weddings.
Personally, I love a blend of mainly in the moment natural photographs with a few directed family and bridal photos. This would include some really nice natural romantic photos of the bride and groom together as well.
Enjoying directed wedding photography.
People skills are far more important than photography skills in my opinion. It’s not about the equipment or level of technical ability, they should be a given that you have professional gear and know how to use it. But being great with people, knowing how to relax people and build rapport quickly is essential.
When I create an experience that is very light, fun and enjoyable for the bridal party the photos are amazing. People look beautiful when they are relaxed, happy and having a great time. You don’t have to direct much at all.
At weddings in the South West my initial direction is minimal for a specific reason, to keep the image natural and allow the people to be comfortable and relaxed how they want to. Often people look great when they are comfortable and relaxed so I allow it to happen. Only if there could be a slight tweak to improve the photo will I mention it because a natural, fun flow to the session is worth far more than a minor detail.
Direction can actually be putting a group of people into some flattering light and instigating a spontaneous moment that I can then capture naturally. The final result looks like I just happened to catch that moment but in reality I manufactured it.
South West Wedding Photography | John Rice Photographer.
Growing up in London, I loved to walk the streets and photograph the natural interactions between people. This is where my journey towards becoming a South West wedding photographer began.
I use the skills I learnt back then to be able to blend into a wedding like a guest myself, this allows me to photograph natural moments without having to hide or use long lenses. People accept me and what I am doing and allow me to photograph the honest moments when they are emotional and having a wonderful time at your wedding.
Weddings in the South West are a joy to photograph with an abundance of fantastic locations in Margaret River, Busselton, Yallingup, Dunsborough, Augusta and Cowaramup.
